Tooth Extraction Importance
Don't Delay When It Comes To The Health Of Your Teeth
It is important to understand what happens after a tooth extraction. You should be aware of some of the symptoms, so as to not be too alarmed. For one, following a tooth extraction, some bleeding is to be expected. To limit some of the bleeding a gauze pack will be placed on the extraction site. This gauze pack should be left there for about 15-20 minutes after leaving the office. It is important not to chew on the pack. And if the bleeding continues, the pack must be replaced. Bite down on the new pack for another 15 minutes. Keep repeating if necessary.
After a tooth extraction, a blood clot will form in the socket and is an important part of the healing process. It is imperative to avoid any activities that may disturb the clot. Do not suck on the extraction site. Do not smoke for at least the following 24 hours after the extraction. Do not spit out or rinse your mouth vigorously. Do not drink through a straw.
